A Better Future

I thought Friday that my student Web page was unaccessable due to the server temporarily being down. Apparently that isn't the case. As part of a plan to give all students Web pages they seem to have deleted all the previously existing Web pages in order to make the new ones.

I thought it was interesting that "Instead of asking students to request a student web space, they are automatically generated for all students." Sounds like it would be nice. I had to send an email to request for Web space. At the same time the Web site also states that "The creation of over 12,000 student websites is taking a longer time than expected. " Uhm, wasn't this suppose to be automated? Or do they mean that they have some below-minum wage college student entering the information for all 12,000 students? If that is the case then it'll be next semester before there is any headway made. And then it'll be time to start over with a new roster of students.

In any case, luckily, they realize that my web site was destroyed. They offer this frequently asked question scenario:

Q: I had a website on the old student web server and now it's gone. How do I get it back?
A: please send an e-mail to shdesk@imail.etsu.edu, or call the help desk (numbers listed below) and enter a request to restore your web site from the old student web server.

Of course this begs the question that if they know they deleted my Web address, and that I am still a student, then why do I have to request to have my Web site restored? Shouldn't they do that by default?
