10 Years After

My return to college

The Final Countdown

This morning I took the final test in my British Literature class. I don't think I did great on it, but I did well. I probably scored a B or A- on this test. Considering my other grades in the class I should easily still have an A.

I took my American Government final yesterday afternoon. I did decent on it. I have, I am sure, a solid B or B+ in that class. After the class I went by one of the mobile book units to sell back the text book. At first the lady offered me $49.50 for it. Then she had to call the main bookstore because this was one of the books "highlighted" on her list. She then told me she was mistaken at the first appraisal. Instead of $49.50 she'd be able to offer me $6. I was stunned. That was less than a 10th of what I paid for the book. I declined the offer and, while walking away disgruntled decided to take it to the off campus college store. There they offered me $32.50. Not as good as the $49.50 but way better than a measley $6.

Also, I received an email from my History of the English Language instructor. He advised me that a syllabus will be posted for the class December 21st on his Web site. (This is one of the classes I am taking in the spring.) I replied to inquire as to which book we will need. I explained that I had visited the on campus bookstore and they had no book shelved for the class. He replied this morning with the information on the book and a statement that he had submitted the information to the bookstore, but that he wasn't aware of the process other than his submission. After my British Literature class I stopped by the bookstore and inquired there if they had the book. They looked it up for me since they also checked the shelf and found no book for the class. Interestingly, they stated that the bookstore had not received a submission for the ENGL3200 class by the instructor. I looked it up online and found the first chapter online. I read that later and probably order it online. Amazon.com offers it with free shipping.

I've spent most of the morning studying for my last final, Spanish. I've been tryingto memorize as much of the Study guide as possible since that is where the majority of our test questions come from. I've a solid A in the class now and am confident that I will do well enough to keep that.

Good Morning, Good Morning

I did well on my first exam, World Civ. oddly, the 30 multiple choice questions all had the same answer D. I had 2 that I didn't put down as D. When I handed it to Burgess he commented that I did well and we spoke briefly about the test. He stated that he thought it would be helpful to students if all the answers were the same. I, however, thought it was confusing. I had a sick feeling the entire time as I was sure I had goofed up. Then, to make things more weird, I was handed back the previous test. it has -2/-3 on the top. The GA told me to multiply the top number by two and then subtract 5. Wha?! I figure it's an A, maybe just barely but still an A, and will leave it at that.

After class I walked over to the closest book-buy-back-coke-stand-thinggy. I sold my $60 World Civ for $32.50. The lady had to call the main campus bookstore for a buy back price and then told me that they were only buying back a limited number of these books. I think she added that because it was such a gross rip off. Grrrrrrr. . .

Off to study for my afternoon exam - American Government.

Most depressing. I have had all sorts of errors this week when attempting to post from the university's library. This was suppose to have been posted on Tuesday. Wednesday the campus closed at noon due to bad weather. This meant that my Spanish class was cancelled. Friday I didn't have British Literature. The instructor made that into a make up day for students who hadn't yet turned in all their papers.

Hang On St. Christopher
American Government was good this morning. The lecture was on US Foriegn Policy. I answered a few questions relating to the recent National Geographic Poll. After having this instructor for a semester I think I am starting to understand the fashion in which he asks questions. Though, admittedly, it's often a coin toss on his true-false questions. (Also, this morning I noticed he has a particular problem pronouncing soft /g/. Interesting.) I stopped by the Language lab after class and it looks like it's filled up with classes doing end of semester work. I might try to get in after World Civ, but I doubt it.

Yesterday I had my third and final paper returned for British Lit II. I received my third A. That means I have two quiz scores of 97% and three papers with 100%s. Also, I spoke with the professor yesterday about a 19 Century Novel class he is teaching next semester. The schedule has it listed only as a graduate level class and I was hoping, like semesters past, it would also be offered as a undergrad class. Unfortunately he said it wouldn't due to a shortage of seniors in the department. Drats!

Anyways, I'm sorry for the lack of posts recently. It's near the end of the semester and what energy I do have I'm attempting to focus on what little school work is left.
