Reconsider Everything
I finished my paper on Theodore Roethke's "Dolor." I came in just over 1,000 words. Man, I felt stressed trying to get it finished but now I am so relieved that it's over. In an homage to Wallace Stevens I titled the poem " 3 Ways to Look At a Poem: Using New Criticism, Deconstructionism, and Reader-Response to criticize Roethke’s poem 'Dolor'."
Monday I will lead my Dialectology class on sections 10.1 and 10.2 from our text book. After failing to cover all I should when I volunteered I'm hoping to make a good impact now. Also, I talked to the instructor about doing my project on multiple negatives and he thought it was a good idea. It will be more syntactical judgement than sitting through hours of interviews trying to catch subjects using it. The visiting professor of Dialectology had made an offer to help as well. I think I'll meet with the class' professor Monday and then email her if I need further assistance. Already I have an idea that I want subjects to do more than say it is wrong or right. I want some sort of scale employeed. This would be similar to the survey that I did in Grammar and Usage with the sme professor.
Also, over the weekend I need to get started on the paper for my Milton class. I am suppose to go to some artsy gallery in Erwin Sunday (my birthday of all days) to do a 4 or 5 minute presentation. I haven't even started on a paper. I'll have to look over my pre-Paradise Lost journals to find something I can expand.
I learned in my Dialectology class the university library's annual booksell started today. Last year I picked up quite a few good books. However, right now I'm way too strapped for cash to pick up anything. After CWL I need to go by work to pick up and cash my check. Then it's off to Sevierville.
I just need to go over over my paper a few times to make sure there aren't any mistakes. When I go to give it to him I want to speak a little about my take on Milton's unorthodox theology. In class yesterday he mentioned that Milton's placement of Hell is a subject of controversy and reinterated that Milton had met Galileo Galilei while the astronomer was under house arrest by the Pope.
