My return to college

The Intentional Fallacy

I overslept this morning and missed my chance to swing by campus and talk to Dr. Burgess about cutting into his History of Rome class. I did manage to redo my car registration as well as swing by work to pick up and cash my paycheck. Then I went over to my parents house to give them the money for registration and use their credit card to pay online rather than wait in line for a c ouple of hours. Plus, they wanted me to drive my grandmother to her doctor's appointment and then take her home.

Well, after I entered all the information online and printed my father the receipt he tells me in a deadpan voice that he gave me the wrong credit card. The way he sounded I thought for sure that he was joking. But, no, he wasn't joking. So, I ended up waiting for 30 minutes on hold when I called the Bursor's office. The whole time my father keeps asking me what they are saying, do I hear music, what does the message say. It's insane. Then I finally get a person. I explain that I entered the wrong credit card and would like them to cancel the transaction so I can use a different credit card. The lady exlaims, "Ewwwwww. I don't know about this. One moment while I talk to my supervisor."

After a five minute or so hold the lady returns and informs me that she needs to transfer me to her supervisor. She gives me the name of the supervisor and her phone number in the event of being disconnected. That was nice I thought. Another five minutes or so on hold and then someone picks up.

"Bursor's office, how may I help you?"

What?! "Uhm, I was being transfered to a supervisor, Mrs. F----."

"One moment" Click Then I was back in the initial phone menu!

Fuck. So hang up and call back the number that the first lady gave me. There's a recording that the number has been disconnected. I look her up on the University's online directory only to discover that her listed phone number is the same as the Bursor's Office. That means in order to contact her I'll have to go through the voice menu thinggy and then wait to be transfered again.

Luckily my father was getting antsy so instead I drove him to his bank so that he could simply transfer the funds around to cover the gaff. Then we drove by the mechanics to pick up his car which had been in the shop.

As a side note. My car needs to go back into the shop again. On the first leg of taking my grandmother home my car did fine. Then we stopped in Greeneville to get something to eat. That's when disaster struck. After that my car would make this sound when I tried to go above 55 that sounded as if my car was in park and I had the accelerator mashed to the floor. It gradually would go above 55, but very slowly. Then once I dropped her off and headed back home the car refused to go above 55 altogether. I ended up driving it in drive2. Even then the repaired thermostat acted funny. While in drive2 the thermostat read as if my car was loosing heat rather than heating up.

My concern is that it is a transmission problem. When I talked to my father he seemed to think it was a linkage or throttle problem. Either way it is occuring only two days after having it returned and paying just underf $2000 in repairs for a gasket problem and a rear pinnion that was leaking. He thought that it was somehting the shop had done and that they would fix it. God I hope so. In the past 3 weeks I have spent nearly $3000 in repairs on what was initially a $4000 car.
